Akarua de Bettencor Chardonnay 2020

A brand-new label from a recently acquired vineyard. Akarua have hit the ground running with this slightly edgy, age-worthy chardonnay that gives a nod in the direction of Chablis. Purity and power with green apple, oyster-shell, struck-flint and subtle spicy oak. Distinctive and attractive chardonnay that can certainly be appreciated now but will develop well with bottle age. (Screwcap) Score: 95 ★★★★★ Ageing: now to 2030 Food: hot-smoked salmon with sautéed potatoes and salad greens. 95 points, Gold Ribbon, Bob Campbell MW, March 2022

Akarua de Bettencor Sauvignon Blanc 2020

A new label for Akarua featuring their Pisa vineyard, de Bettencor. Tangy, mouth-watering sauvignon blanc with lime, grapefruit, lemongrass, green apple and tropical fruits. A bright, vibrant wine with impressive purity. 93 points, Bob Campbell MW, March 2022

Akarua Lilyvale Pinot Noir 2019

Bright, fresh, ethereal pinot noir with dark cherry, violet, spice, struck-flint and spicy oak flavours supported by tangy acidity and fine, ripe tannins. The wine opened up as it sat in the glass—aerate for best results. A little closed and reductive at this stage, should develop well with bottle age. Bob Campbell MW, 94 points, March 2022

Akarua The Siren Pinot Noir 2018

"A barrel selection of wine made from the best parcels of the Cairnmuir Road home block. Intense, complex pinot noir with plum, dark berry, floral and wood-smoke with a signature of wild thyme. An elegant wine with layers of different flavours. Well-structured with obvious cellaring potential," 95 points, Bob Campbell MW, October 2021

Akarua 25 Steps Pinot Noir 2019

"A perfumed nose of dark cherries, raspberries, dark chocolate, cloves and baking spices. Medium body with fresh acidity. Energetic and crunchy on the palate with pure, spicy character. Complete and fascinating. Needs three or four years to come together. Un-fined. Screw cap," 93 points, James Suckling, October 2021

Akarua Pinot Noir 2020

"Restrained voluptuousness with Black Doris plum, cassis, floral, violet and spice, thyme and anise flavours. Rich, smooth-textured wine that is a pleasure to taste. Gobs of fruit supported by enough acid and tannins to prevent any sense of cloying. A well-made wine that measures up to its predecessors," 95 points, Bob Campbell MW, Oct 21

Akarua Pinot Noir 2020

Dark, even, light ruby-red with some depth. The nose is elegantly powerful with classic Central Otago Pinot Noir nuances of black and red cherries, blackberries and blueberries, entwined with dark herbs, thyme, black pepper and toasty oak spice details. Full-bodied, dark cherries with bramble along with dark herbs and oak spices. The fruit is rich and intense in aromas, interweaved with fine-grained tannin extraction, providing support alongside toasty oak and alcohol power. Complexing details of dark herbs, spices and earth unfolding as its aerated. Warming alcohol carries spices and liquorice to a lengthy and robust finish. Match with grilled lamb and venison over the next 5 years. Fermented to 14% alc, aged 11 months in French oak barriques, unfined. Vegan friendly. Candice Chow, August 2020, 18.5/20 pts

RUA Pinot Noir 2020

Already delicious, the estate-grown 2020 vintage (4*) was harvested from 19 to 28 year-old vines in the Bannockburn and Pisa districts, and matured for six months in French oak barriques (10 per cent new). Deep ruby, it is fragrant, mouthfilling, sweet-fruited and supple, with generous, vibrant cherry, plum and spice flavours, and savoury notes adding considerable complexity. Best drinking mid-2022+. Good value. Michael Cooper, February 2022

"A blend of pinot noir and chardonnay that spent more than three years in the bottle on the yeast lees.
