Our Vineyards

Bannockburn
Cairnmuir Road
Our beloved home and winery block, 48 ha planted by Sir Clifford and Lady Marie Skeggs in 1996.
Our Cairnmuir Road vineyard is planted over three glacially-formed terraces tucked into the foothills of the mountains. Soils are schist in differing grades from fine sand on the lowest terraces through gravels and layers of rock. Four varietals are planted here – 80% pinot noir and the balance in chardonnay, pinot gris and riesling. The west-facing position of this unique vineyard site gives intense all day sun during the growing season, and it is here we see the darkest fruit character in our pinot noir, and the most rich, round and ripe tannins, acidity and structure.
Akarua's "icon" wine The Siren, is created from winemaker Andrew Keenleyside's selection of the darkest richest barrels of pinot noir from this site and is the perfect way to taste Cairmuir Road in a glass.
